SFDC hosts events, at least one per month, throughout the year. More on each event series below.
The Business Roundtable Speaker Series (BRSS) serves as an educational series for businesses and members of the community. BRSS events focus on topics with local significance, such as “Government Contracting for Small Businesses,” and broad areas of interest, such as cybersecurity and search engine optimization. Each BRSS event features industry experts drawn from the community.
The Summit Series events are focused on macro trends affecting revitalization and development. For example, the “Restaurant Trends Summit,” where retail and dining experts from Streetsense discussed and the future of the restaurant industry, and “Planning and Zoning 101,” where senior officials from the Fairfax County Government and land-use attorney from Walsh Colucci Lubeley and Walsh gave a tutorial on land-use in Fairfax County.
The Economic Outlook Summit is the premier event of the year for SFDC and the Richmond Highway Corridor, held in early April at the Belle Haven Country Club. Each year, SFDC and the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce partner to host the Economic Outlook Summit, where national thought leaders, economists, and senior Fairfax County officials discuss the regional outlook for southeast Fairfax County.
The Mary Thonen Richmond Highway Beautification Awards are SFDC’s annual year-end event that recognizes local establishments for their outstanding contributions to Richmond Highway beautification in the form of landscape improvements. This annual award was named to honor a community champion and long-serving board member, the late Mary Thonen.
Lastly, SFDC hosts and participates in special events throughout the year. For example, this past year, we co-hosted a panel series focused on the redevelopment of Richmond Highway with NAIOP, the office and multifamily trade association.
