				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Richmond Highway will be the next area of focus for Fairfax County&#8217;s revitalization efforts, according to a <a href="http://washingtonexaminer.com/article/2521725" target="_blank">recent article</a> in the Washington Examiner.</p>
<p>Article author Taylor Holland notes that Fairfax County officials are beginning to turn their attention away from Tysons corner, instead seeking other areas of the county that are ripe for redevelopment. &#8220;The county&#8217;s Board of Supervisors has vowed to rebuild elsewhere,&#8221; Holland writes. &#8220;That construction is headed toward Route 1.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The demand for transit-oriented properties is higher than ever,&#8221; [Supervisor Jeff] McKay said. &#8220;Developers are starting to realize that redevelopment around rail is possible in other parts of the county.&#8221;</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SFDC has been working with Fairfax County to try to reduce the number of illegal signs on Richmond Highway. Here is your chance to get involved and help us out in that effort!</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">There will be a public hearing on a proposed agreement with the VDOT Commissioner of Highways that would allow the County to remove signs located in the public rights-of-way.  This public hearing is required before the program can be implemented.  The date for the public hearing is set for Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035.  If you would like to register to testify, sign up on-line  at <a href="http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/bosclerk/speaker_bos.htm" target="_blank">www.fairfaxcounty.gov/bosclerk/speaker_bos.htm</a>, or call 703-324-3151; TTY 703-324-3903. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Entrepreneurship 101: Starting a Business in Fairfax County</h3>
<p>The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) conducts a monthly* workshop for individuals interested in starting a business in Fairfax County. Held in partnership with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (DBA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the sessions provide overviews of:</p>
<ul>
<li>Business start-up basics (licenses and permits)</li>
<li>DBA workforce service and training programs</li>
<li>SBA financing and resources</li>
<li>SDB, MDE and 8(a) certification</li>
</ul>
<p>The workshops are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month, unless a holiday precedes the first Tuesday, in which case the date is shifted to the second Tuesday of the month. There is no charge, but pre-registration is required. Click on the link below to find out which sessions are open for registration.</p>
<p>The remaining 2012 workshops are scheduled for October 2 and November 6. In 2013, the workshops resume on the following dates: January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7, June 4, September 10, October 1 and November 5. <a href="http://www.fairfaxcountyeda.org/doing-business-workshop-registration">Register here</a>.</p>

<p><em>Workshops will be canceled when Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) announces delays or cancels classes due to inclement weather. FCPS announces delays or cancellations on its Web site, <a href="http://www.fcps.edu/">www.fcps.edu</a>, and on local television and radio stations. When workshops are canceled, they will be made up seven days later beginning at 8 a.m.</em></p>
