Public Comments for Route 1 Improvement StudiesThe Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in cooperation with Fairfax County, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Belvoir has initiated studies for improvements to U.S. Route 1 through Fort Belvoir. The limits of the studies are from Telegraph Road to Mount Vernon Highway. Among the components of the study will be identification of transportation needs, analysis of alternatives to meet those needs, and analysis of the environmental consequences of those alternatives, all of which will be documented in an Environmental Assessment in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Public involvement and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies will be ongoing throughout the study. At this early stage of the study, citizen suggestions and comments are invited to help define the scope of the study with respect to transportation needs in this section of the Route 1 corridor, the range of alternatives to be considered, and important environmental concerns.
COMMENTS: Comments or other information relevant to the study may be sent to:
FHWA’s Project Manager, Mr. Jack Van Dop Federal Highway Administration, Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division 21400 Ridgetop Circle, Sterling, VA 20166
All comments must be received before the end of the business day Monday, December 13, 2010. Comments also may be submitted via e-mail to: Jack.VanDop@dot.gov.
