The Summit is over, thanks to all who attended!
The Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation held its “Innovations in Transportation” Summit on October 30, 2014 from 8:30-10:00 A.M. at the Hampton Inn and Suites (5821 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22303). At The Summit, three expert speakers reported on the latest news and trends happening in transportation as well as how these innovations influence economic development. With the support of our sponsors, we were able to host over 60 attendees from a variety of backgrounds: 35% work in the transportation industry, 33% represented the community and local businesses, 16% work on economic development, and 16% work in the real estate industry. Tom Biesiadny (Fairfax County Department of Transportation)
Tom Biesiadny has worked for the Fairfax County Department of Transportation in various positions for the past 26 years. During his career, Tom has coordinated the implementation of transit capital facilities, including commuter rail stations, park-and-ride facilities and transit centers. Tom has also represented the County on transportation issues at the Virginia General Assembly, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and the Transportation Planning Board. He was appointed FCDOT’s Director in October 2011.
Robin Antonucci (Wells & Associates)
Robin Antonucci has over 30 years of experience in traffic, transportation, transit, and parking planning, land development and engineering. She has worked for state, local, and regional public agencies, and private consultants. Her extensive public sector experience includes the review and analysis of complex development applications, parking demand studies, the development and review of proposed changes to local zoning ordinance(s), and highway design and construction inspection duties. Ms. Antonucci has provided considerable expert assistance/testimony before planning boards, elected officials, courts, and numerous citizen groups.
Karina Ricks (Nelson/Nygaard)
Karina Ricks is a Principal with Nelson\Nygaard Associates. She is a leader in their multimodal transportation planning practice and Mid-Atlantic office. Karina’s career has crossed over and through many aspects of planning from economic development to land use to democracy and governance finally alighting in transportation. This diverse background gives her a unique ability to synthesize transportation’s impact and benefit in achieving larger social and economic objectives. Prior to joining Nelson\Nygaard, Karina served for over 15 years in the public sector at the federal, state and municipal levels, most recently as the head of transportation planning for the District of Columbia.
